Dil Raju rakes up controversy yet again while talking about the Sankranthi box office clash of ‘Varisu’ aka ‘Vaarasudu’

Tollywood producer Dil Raju has been at the receiving end for a couple of months now due to the never-ending Vaarasudu aka ‘Varisu’ controversy. At a time when the Telugu Producers Council opposes the release of Telugu dubbed movies over Telugu original films during festival periods, Dil Raju’s latest statement has only intensified fan wars. Speaking to NTV as part of an interview, Sri Venkateswara Creations’ Dil Raju compared the stardom of Thalapathy Vijay with that of Ajith Kumar and declared the former as the bigger star, which hasn’t gone down well with netizens.

Prior to Raju’s statement, Tamil cinema lovers have consistently locked horns with the debate of “who’s the bigger star? Thala Ajith or Thalapathy Vijay?" Considering the never-ending battle of Ajith and Thalapathy fanatics, along with the heated controversy over Vaarasudu’s theatrical release in the Telugu States, Raju’s comments couldn't have come at a worse time than this.

Speaking to the media house, the producer remarked, “We all know that Thalapathy Vijay is the number one star in Tamil Nadu. Let’s keep the (theatre) ratio aside for a minute… Considering Vijay is bigger (star) than Ajith... Vijay Garu is at the top and then comes Ajith Garu at second place. Hence, I ask for more theatres for Vijay Garu's movie as a producer. This is business, not a monopoly. It's the same case in all the states, but I'm the only one being spotlighted for this issue maybe because I'm glamorous (chuckles)."

Raju further added, “I’m leaving for Chennai tomorrow to meet Udhayanidhi Stalin Garu tomorrow. I need to discuss the theatre allotment since out of 800 theatres, my film (Varisu) has received around 400 theatres while the rest has been provided for Ajith Gaaru’s movie (Thunivu). I am literally begging for theatres by asking for additional 50-odd theatres, at the least.”

The interviewer was quick to point out Dil Raju getting denied for additional theatres is akin to how he has shot down requests for higher theatre allotments for Telugu original releases Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy. Fans also hopped on to highlight the “hypocrisy” of Raju as they voiced that the producer, who often dominates the Telugu States' theatres allotment, is now facing the issue by being on the other side of such situations for the first time.
