‘Missamma’ actress was 87Actress Jamuna, breathed her last today at her Hyderabad residence. She was 87. She was last seen in the 2021 film Annapoorna Gari Manavadu.While still in school, Jamuna earned a name for herself as a versatile stage artiste. Dr Garkipati Raja Rao, once saw Jamuna's performance in the play Maa Bhoomi and offered her a chance to act in his film Jamuna thus debuted as a lead actress in Telugu cinema with the film ‘Puttilu’ (1955).Jamuna acted in more than 200 films in the Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi languages. She won many accolades for her memorable performance in the Tamil-Telugu bilingual romantic-comedy film Missamma (1955) directed by LV Prasad.She went onto work with renowned actors like NT Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, and Krishnam Raju. Jamuna also ventured into politics and she served as an MP after being elected from the Rajahmundry Lok Sabha constituency in the year 1989.
