“This Pongal is ours,” says the Tollywood producer referring to the Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Earlier yesterday, the makers of the Tamil flick 'Varisu' hosted an audio launch event. Thousands of fans gathered at the grandeur event held in Chennai to tune in to their star Thalapathy Vijay's speech, who attended a public launch event for the first time since the pandemic. Dil Raju, the producer of the Tamil film ‘Varisu’ and its Telugu dub Vaarasudu, heaped praise on Vijay Thalapathy at the event. “Many people asked me if 'Varisu' is a remake or a sequel of any film. It's neither a remake nor a sequel; it's a straight Tamil film. We dedicate this movie to all the parents out there. The film will have (elements of) fun, action sequences, emotions, groovy songs, and dance moves,” remarked Raju of Sri Venkateswara Creations. Time and again, fans contemplated that the plot of ‘Varisu’ resembles that of Mahesh Babu’s family entertainer Maharshi. Interestingly, both ‘Varisu’ and ‘Maharshi’ has Vamshi Paidipally as the director. Nevertheless, Dil Raju shot such reports by clarifying that it isn’t a remake. Co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, ‘Varisu’ is slated for worldwide release on January 12, 2023, coinciding with the festival of Sankranti aka Pongal 2023.
