The Tollywood director talks about ‘Varisu’ aka ‘Vaarasudu’ as it nears its theatrical release
Though it was initially touted as a Telugu-Tamil bi-lingual, the shoot of ‘Varisu’ went on floors as a straight Tamil movie. After Dil Raju and Vamshi Paidipally’s plans to cast either Mahesh Babu or Ram Charan as the lead didn’t materialise, the duo pitched the script to Thalapathy Vijay and cut to the present, the movie is scheduled for release on January 14, 2023.
In an interview with BehindWoods, Vamsi, the director of ‘Varisu’ (Vaarasudu in Telugu), discussed the film and revealed what the audiences can expect from the drama. “Once you come out of the theatre, you will feel like giving a call to your Appa (father) and Amma (mother). That's my aim as well.. (to show) vintage Vijay sir along with how today's fans wish to perceive him (on the screen),” said Vamshi.
The director further explained what he exactly means by the fusion of “vintage” Vijay and the vision of present moviegoers, as he continued, “Basically, I know when Vijay sir was starting off like Poove Unakkaga and Kadhalukku Mariyadhai... these were the feel-good films, you know... Love Today, Thulladha Manamum Thullum... what I'm saying is that these were kind of feel-good films. You come out of a theatre and you feel something good. I think this (Varisu) will be one such film, where people will feel it's a heartwarming movie while leaving the theatres.”
The Maharshi director added that though it's a family entertainer, ‘Varisu’ has elements of action, romance, and comedy, among others, which every Vijay film needs. “But again, it'll have everything that Vijay sir's film needs in terms of his stature and charisma because if I let that down and try to convey what I want alone, I know what will happen (laughs audibly).”
Co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, ‘Varisu’ aka ‘Vaarasudu’ will have a worldwide theatrical release on January 14, 2023.
