He passed away in the early hours of July 6, 2022, at his residence in Moti Nagar, Hyderabad. For some time, the 68-year-old senior editor had been undergoing treatment for kidney-related issues and unfortunately, breathed his last on Wednesday. Born on January 15, 1954, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Gautham Raju began his career as an editor in 1981 with the Chiranjeevi starrer Chattaniki Kallu Levu. He then went on to master the art by working on films such as Bhale Mithrulu (1986), Janaki Ramudu (1988), Hai Hai Nayaka (1989), and Bharatha Nari (1989), Karthavyam (1990), etc. He won the Nandi Award for Best Editing for the 1991 movie Erra Mandaram and eleven years later, Gautham Raju won another Nandi Award, this time for the highly-acclaimed and commercially successful movie Aadi (2002), which turned out to be Jr NTR’s first blockbuster in the Telugu film industry. Tagore (2003), Ek Niranjan (2009), Race Gurram (2014), Gopala Gopala (2015), Sardaar Gabbar Singh (2016), and Khaidi No 150 (2017), are some of his many notable works. Having worked on nearly 800 films across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Hindi languages over a span of nearly four decades, Gautham Raju established his identity as one of the best editors in the Telugu film industry.
