The Workers Unions in the Telugu film industry have gone on an indefinite strike demanding a hike in their wages The workers’ unions of the Telugu film industry (TFI) have gone on an indefinite strike from Wednesday, demanding better wages. More than 20,000 workers pertaining to the 24 crafts are participating in the strike affecting films on location like ‘Bholaa Shankar’, ‘Tiger Nageswara Rao’, ‘Salaar’ and ‘Project K’. Responding to the strike, the Producers Council convened a press meet and expressed its opinion. Speaking on behalf of the Council, producer C Kalyan said, “We are totally shocked by this strike. We have been increasing the wages of the workers in a timely manner. They wrote a letter to us on June 6 demanding a hike in wages. Producers have no objection to the hike but we also have a few conditions. We requested them to come for a meeting to sort out the issues but they resorted to the strike suddenly which is wrong”. He further added, “They say that they had given us notice of the strike. This is not correct; they have given us no such notice. Producers are ready to resume shooting provided the workers come to work on Thursday and if the unions are ready to discuss with us on Friday about the wages and terms and conditions. Otherwise, we will not resume the shootings and the unions should understand that they will have no work if they trouble the producers”.
