A Kalanjali to be held for the legendary director on his birth anniversaryKalatapsvi K Viswanath, one of the most revered names in the Telugu film industry, breathed his last on February 2. The legendary director’s films changed the face of Telugu cinema forever. They’re to date considered to be some of the best films ever made and are regarded as being ahead of the times. Today, February 19, the Telugu Film Fraternity is coming together to celebrate the filmmaker’s 93rd birth anniversary at Park Hyatt, Hyderabad. For his contributions to the film industry, he was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2016 by the Government of India. He was conferred the Ragupathi Venkayya Award in 1992 by the Andhra Pradesh government, a year in which he was also given the Padma Sri. He also won 5 National Film Awards, seven state Nandi Awards, ten Filmfare Awards South, and a Filmfare Award in Hindi. Several prominent film personalities are expected to be in attendance of the ‘Kalanjali’ or memorial event taking place at 6:00 PM.Another similar event is being held in the city of Vizag, organised by the Vizag Film Society, the event will be held at the Visakha Public Library. The gathering will start at 5:30 PM. Film director and cinematographer M.V. Raghu, who worked with Viswanath in films like Siri Vennela and Swathi Muthyam, will be the chief guest. He will narrate his experience working with the Kalatapasvi.
