Sindhooram stars newcomers Dharma Mahesh and Brigida in the leadTelugu cinema lovers would be well aware of the 1997 film Sindhooram directed by Krishna Vamsi. Starring Brahmaji and Sanghavi in the lead, although the movie was a failure at the box-office, in later years, it attained cult status among fans. It was a movie that dealt with the intricacies of naxalism in Andhra Pradesh.Nearly two-and-a-half decades later, another young director Shyam Tummalapalli is ready with a similar movie titled Sindhooram. Written by Kishore Sri Krishna, it has Siva Balaji playing a Naxalite for the first time in his career. “There have been many films depicting the societal point of view from a Naxalite’s perspective. Our film is based on real events and contains elements of the naxal revolution, politics and romance. We have decided to present a ‘truth’ through this film. When I first listened to the script, I was taken aback because it’s a really hard-hitting one and some scenes have the potential of creating a controversy. I play a Naxalite who is actually a police informer,” said Siva Balaji.
