Aged 53, Singer KK passed away soon after giving a live performance in Kolkata on Tuesday night Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, passed away on the night of May 31, 2022, soon after giving a live performance at a concert in Southern Kolkata. According to reports, the singer complained of 'heaviness in the chest' after reaching the hotel post the concert and collapsed. He was then rushed to a nearby private hospital where the doctors declared him to be dead and presume sudden cardiac arrest to be the most probable cause of death. KK is survived by his wife and two children. Born into a Malayali family based in Delhi, KK wanted to be a doctor before discovering that his heart lied in music and singing. With no formal training in music, KK pursued his passion for singing and in no time he was noticed by legendary AR Rahman, who gave him an opportunity to sing the Hindi version of the song "Hello Doctor" from the Tamil movie Kadhal Desam (1996), before giving him a chance to sing the original track "Strawberry Kannae" in the Tamil movie Minsara Kanavu (1997). KK rose to fame with “Tadap Tadap Ke Is Dil Se” from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999). From there, he went on to establish himself as one of the best singers in the Indian film industry, singing across multiple languages. Interestingly though, he could only sing one song in his mother tongue Malayalam - "Rahasyamae" in Puthiya Mukham (2009). “Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe” from Dil Chahta Hai (2001), "Cheliya Cheliya" in Gharshana (2004), "Appadi Podu" in Ghilli (2004), "Inthe Intinthe" in Balu ABCDEFG (2005), “Ajab Si” from Om Shanti Om (2007), “Khuda Jaane” from Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), "Uppenantha" in Arya 2 (2009), “Tu Jo Mila” from Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), are some among his many memorable songs. KK made a special place in the hearts of music lovers with his rendition of 'Pal' "Hum, rahen ya na rahen kal Kal yaad aayenge ke ye pal Pal, ye hain pyar ke pal Chal, aa mere sang chal Chal, soche kya Chhoti si, hai zindagi Kal, mil jaaye to hogi khush-naseebi..." ...which roughly translates as "Whether we'll be there tomorrow or not, we'll remember these moments tomorrow. These are moments of love. So come along with me, don't think much as life is too short. We're lucky if we ever get a tomorrow..."
