Rishab Shetty opens up on the sequel to 'Kantara' during the 100 days celebrationSince the theatrical release of Kantara, actor-director Rishab Shetty has constantly made headlines due to the critical acclaim the movie continues to receive. In January, Hombale Films founder Vijay Kirgandur, in an exclusive interaction with Deadline, revealed that Rishab Shetty had already started working on the film. However, the actor-director has been tight-lipped about the sequel and refused to divulge details until he is ready to start production on the film. Now, it appears the wait is over as Rishab opened up during the 100 days celebration of ‘Kantara’. He said, “You watched Kantara 2, Kantara 1 is in the making.” The director’s words are a confirmation that pre-production work on the prequel project is already underway. Vijay Kirgandur, when speaking to Deadline, had said, “The prequel will explore the backstory of the deity and its pact with a troubled king that was intended to protect the villagers and the nature that surrounds them.”The first part of ‘Kantara’ sheds light on the origins of the divine practice of ‘Bhoota Kola’, how the ‘Daiva’ (deity) ‘Panjurli’ answers queries of the locals, and provides solutions to their problems. The practice will be further explored in the upcoming movie, as Rishab has conducted extensive research, even travelling to coastal Karnataka for the same.
