Ram Gopal Varma, known for his master storytelling skills, is back with another gangster drama. The makers have released the first look poster of his upcoming film titled ‘I Am R’, in which Kannada ‘Real Star’ Upendra will be playing the titular role of 'R'. The project will be bankrolled by Raj Yajman under the A Square Productions banner, and is slated to release in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi languages.
The launch took place in Bangalore today and the star-studded event saw as many dignitaries from the film and political fraternity. Actor Kichcha Sudeep was invited as the Chief Guest at the event and he did the honours of launching the film's title.
The film is said to be based on the life of an underworld crime boss Muthappa Rai in Bangalore, who is claimed to have links with the gangster Dawood Ibrahim and started out as a clerk in ‘Vijaya Bank’ before taking to a life of crime and eventually succumbing to brain cancer in 2020. A master of the ‘Gangster’ genre, RGV had reportedly tried to make this film with Kiccha Sudeep and Vivek Oberoi in the lead roles, but things didn't materialise and the role finally went to Upendra.
