Nandamuri brothers speak on government's plan to rename NTR Health University

Jr NTR, who is the grandson of former TDP leader and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh NT Ramarao (NTR), reacted to the latest controversy concerning the renaming of the health university in Vijaywada. The RRR actor said reiterated that removing NTR's name doesn't erase his fame nor his ledger of good deeds for the Telugu people.

Jr NTR took to social media and issued a statement in Telugu, which loosely translates to: "Both NTR and YSR are great leaders who have gained immense popularity. Both have brought immense respect to the state so replacing one's name with another's name does not raise the stature of YSR, nor does it lower the stature of NTR. Renaming the university cannot erase the fame NTR earned, his stature in the history of the Telugu nation, and his memories in the hearts of the Telugu people."

His brother and Bimbisara actor Kalyan Ram also expressed his disappointment and said: "In 1986, a medical university was established at Vijayawada. Mr. NTR, who wanted to make quality medical education available to the students of 3 regions of Andhra Pradesh, initiated this university. This medical health university is one of the best in the country and has produced countless skilled medical professionals in the country. The university was renamed Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences to commemorate his contribution to the improvement of medical studies in the Telugu states. Regardless of which political party is in power, NTR gave the seed to this university. It pains me to change the name of a prestigious university that has been in existence for over 25 years regardless of which political party is in power. It is wrong to use this topic which is very emotional for many people just for political gain."

For unversed, the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, has renamed the health university after the former CM and his late father YS Rajasekhar Reddy which has triggered a controversy in the State and amongst NTR fans.
