‘Jailer’ WON'T lock horns with Mani Ratnam's ‘Ponniyin Selvan 2’
Seems like the film industry is gearing up for yet another box office clash. On Sankranti it was Tollywood Vs Kollywood; Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya and Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy faced stiff competition from Ajith Kumar’s ‘Thunivu’ (Tegimpu in Telugu) and Thalapathy Vijay starrer ‘Varisu’ dubbed and released in Telugu as Vaarasudu. Up next on August 11, movie buffs will witness a major clash. This time it is Tollywood Vs Kollywood Vs Bollywood.
Speculation is rife that Rajinikanth’s much-awaited film Jailer has been postponed. Reportedly the makers pushed the release, as they didn't want to hurry with the post-production works of the film. Jailer, which features Rajinikanth as a prison officer aka Jailer named Muthuvel Pandian will now release on August 11. In this Nelson Dilipkumar directorial, Shiva Rajkumar will essay the role of a lead antagonist which also has Tamannaah, Sunil, and noted Tamil actors Vasanth Ravi, Vinayakan, and Yogi Babu. For the upcoming movie, Rajinikanth is also teaming up with 'Padayappa' (Narasimha) co-star Ramya Krishnan after 23 years. Mollywood superstar Mohanlal is also a part of the stellar cast.
Thus, the latest reports also suggest that Rajinikanth's action thriller will not clash with Mani Ratnam's highly anticipated period drama Ponniyin Selvan 2, as expected earlier. For the unversed, the cine-goers were expecting to witness a huge box office clash between the much-awaited sequel of Tamil cinema's highest-grossing period film, and Thalaiva’s ‘Jailer’, this Summer.
Though not with ‘PS 2’, Jailer will lock horns with Superstar Mahesh Babu’s SSMB28 helmed by Trivikram which will see Pooja Hegde and Sree Leela as the female leads. ‘SSMB28’ was slated to release on April 28 clashing with ‘PS2’ but the makers recently announced that the film has been postponed. If reports are to be believed, the film will have a pan-Indian release.
