Satyadev Kancharana (SK) is attempting his first full-fledged romantic film with Gurthunda Seethakalam, a remake of the Kannada blockbuster ‘Love Mocktail’, that is releasing on December 9. In an interview given to VCinema, the talented actor opened up about the movie and cinema in general.

Q. You are known for choosing different kinds of subjects. Why ‘Gurthunda Seethakalam’?

SK: Many actors start out with a love story before attempting different kinds of subjects. In my case, it’s been the other way round. When ‘Gurthunda Seethakalam’ came to me, I realized this was the right time to do this movie. At a later stage in life, even the audience would find it embarrassing if I do such roles. (Smiles).

Q. But you have an image for coming out with different kinds of stories panning various genres. So, will the audience accept you in a pure love story?

SK: I honestly believe that the audience views every film on its own merit. But I didn’t do this film because I wanted to do a love story. This is the genre that has a universal appeal. This will help me increase my reach as an actor. I’m especially glad that ‘Gurthunda Seethakalam’ is releasing after ‘Godfather’ because I got the opportunity to work with ‘Annayya’ (Megastar Chiranjeevi) and also my performance in that film has increased the number of people who are appreciative of my work which will definitely aid ‘Gurthunda Seethakalam’.

Q. The mindset of filmmakers has now veered to ‘Pan-Indian’ cinema. Can we expect the same from you?

SK: Absolutely! And all thanks to Rajamouli Sir! He gave us the wings to dream big! I think henceforth, there will only be Indian cinema. Either a film does well across the country or not. Pan-Indian cinema means markets increase, bigger budgets, better quality, and the chance for different superstars from across various industries to collaborate. I think it’s a boon for the cinema.

Q. Please tell us a bit about ‘Gurthunda Seethakalam’

SK: It’s a romantic movie with loads of fun, spanning four phases of a person’s life beginning from his childhood. I’m sure the viewers will connect with at least one phase of the love story, that way, there’s something in it for everyone. The emotional part of the film is sure to leave you teary-eyed. There’s a beautiful metaphor in the film that love need not be only when the person is physically present with you. Pure love is only when you can cherish even the memories of that person despite the absence of their physical presence.
