The Festival will take place in Busan, South Korea from April 25 to May 1, 2023Hardly a day goes by without cinephiles waking up to the news of RRR winning one award or the other at both the domestic and international circuits. But, it is a fact that there have been other films also in 2022 worthy of international acclaim. Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan (PS-1 in Telugu) is one such film. The first of two parts is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel of the same name. It dramatises the early life of Chola prince Arulmozhi Varman, who would become the renowned emperor Rajaraja I (947–1014). Now, in a major acknowledgment of the efforts of Mani Ratnam, the film has been nominated in six categories at the Busan Film Festival aka The 16th Asian Film Awards.
