Kamal Haasan's ambitious projects - Marudhanayagam, Marmayogi and Sabaash Naidu - were shelved at different points in time due to various reasons In the past, Kamal Haasan had announced three big films: ‘Marudhanayagam’, ‘Marmayogi’ and ‘Sabaash Naidu’, which were launched amidst much fanfare. ‘Marudhanayagam’ was started in 1991 and is a dream project of Kamal Haasan. Touted to be the most expensive film to be produced in India during that period, the film had a proposed budget of ₹80 Crores. Work on the film progressed till 1998 after which it was shelved following differences with the producers. Kamal Haasan then planned to do ‘Marmayogi’ after ‘Dasavatharam’ in 2008. However, the project was shelved after the co-producers opted out because of financial constraints. ‘Sabaash Naidu’ was started in 2016 and a schedule was also completed in the United States. However, numerous delays due to unforeseen circumstances resulted in the movie losing steam, and efforts to revive it in 2017 and 18 have come a cropper. Fans were hopeful that following the massive success of Vikram Hitlist, one of those projects could be revived. However, Kamal Haasan clarified in an interview that it was highly unlikely that any of those films would see the light of day. “After such long delays, I have a bit of disinterest towards these films. I cannot go into it and get locked again, the right people have to come forward and start them,” said Kamal Haasan.
