At a ‘Month of Madhu’ press meet, Swathi poured her heart out about the insensitivity and recklessness of some media outletsAt one of the promotional press meets of her film Month of Madhu, actress Swathi has openly named and called out a Telugu media outlet for writing insensitive articles about her that had caused her immense pain and distress over the years.Starting off with a question to enquire if any representative of ‘GreatAndhra’ was present at the press meet, Swathi said, “The reason why I’m asking this question is because… I’ve been paying attention to your (Greatandhra) articles ever since my journey from ‘Colours’. Every word or article that you write has a lot of effect… You need not support me, and as a professional artist, it’s my job to be open to and welcome criticism, and I’ve been doing that. Recently, they’ve misquoted me saying that I argued with journalist Suresh Kondeti; they wrote another article titled ‘Will Month of Madhu give a break to Swathi?’...If I ever need a break, it’s from such articles. Will you be able to give that break?”“I have suffered a lot in my personal life because of the articles written on me by GreatAndhra, because people who read them, chose to believe you and not me, and it has caused me immense pain and distress. I don’t even know who these people are. Now they might even twist all of this and write, I’m not sure. I stopped reading articles on their website for five years because it was causing me mental trauma. They write whatever they want and demean human beings however they want. I’m not chiding them… How careful we’re being with our film, you as journalists also must try to do better,” said Swathi.Besides expressing her concerns with media outlets like GreatAndhra, the ‘Month of Madhu’ actress also urged such Telugu websites not to write reviews or articles. Moreover, she thanked national media portals such as Indian Express, The Hindu, The News Minute and Film Companion for taking their jobs seriously and supporting films.Swathi’s statement — “Why doesn’t the entertainment industry receive the same respect as any other profession like that of medicine, engineering or law? Because we have to put in efforts collectively to earn that” — has won praise from the journalists present at the meet. The actress has urged the media not to take people for granted.
