Vijay Kiragandur of Hombale Films spills the beans on sequels of Rishab Shetty's 'Kantara' and Prabhas' 'Salaar'
Unarguably, Hombale Films has grown into one the biggest production houses of Indian Cinema. Incorporated in 2012, the banner has produced some of the finest hits in the Kannada Film Industry and so far, has only delivered blockbusters, including the KGF franchise. In an exclusive chat with indianexpress.com, the founder of Hombale Films, Vijay Kiragandur, addressed the firm's success and the challenges that lie ahead for them.
"We have a lot of responsibility right now in terms of selecting the right content and devising the right marketing strategies. Next year is going to be challenging for us," said Kiragandur about the mammoth expectations from their upcoming movies.
Referring to their recent blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2 and Rishab Shetty's Kantara, Kiragandur stated that never in their wildest dreams did they think that 'Kantara' would sensationalise the nation by collecting a gross of ₹400 crores worldwide. "We wanted to make a film under Rishab Shetty’s direction. But, we didn’t have a vision of how this film would turn out. After the completion of the movie, and when I saw the film, I felt it would create a good impact. But, we never guessed the scale of it," remarked Kiragandur.
When asked about the sequel plans for 'Kantara' and their vision for Prabhas-starrer Salaar after its theatrical release, Kiragandur was quoted saying, “At present, we are open to that idea (turning their successful ventures into franchises). We are also open to making sequels for Salaar. We will take the call after we watch the finished film. The same is with KGF 3. After Prashanth is done with Salaar, we will discuss it.”
