The 'Sita Ramam' Director Is A Huge Fan Of 'Asuran' Director Vetrimaaran
Hanu Raghavapudi is currently enjoying the success of his recent directorial ‘Sita Ramam.' By casting Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan and Hindi-Marathi actress Mrunal Thakur in the lead roles, Hanu delivered a successful movie after a string of flops.
In an interview with 'IndiaGlitz Telugu,' Hanu talked about his passion for cinema before he ventured into the direction department. The director revealed that he had only two things in life before direction - working for cinema and watching films. Hanu added that he watched 4-5 films in a day and was obsessed with movies. After discussing films, the director was asked by the host if he was offered to direct the remake of ‘Asuran’ in Telugu.
Hanu revealed that he was offered to direct the Telugu remake titled Narappa, but refused to direct it. The director was quoted saying, “Generally, I don’t like remakes. But, I’m a big fan of Vetrimaaran. It was a hard-hitting film. I would have definitely worked on Asuran, they even asked me to, but I was working on the script of Sita Ramam at that time. I haven't watched the Telugu version (Narappa), yet. I know that it's a true original (Asuran) and its filmmaking cannot be imitated. It's a classic film, I loved it. I watched it three times.” Along with revealing the reason behind dropping the chance to direct ‘Narappa,’ Hanu disclosed that he travels to Chennai every time a Vetrimaaran movie is released.
After Hanu rejected the offer to direct the film, the movie was finally directed by Srikanth Addala of Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu fame. Starring Venkatesh Daggubati and Priyamani as the leads, ‘Narappa’ received positive feedback from fans and critics alike.
