‘Agnyaathavaasi’ and ‘Spyder’ were Dil Raju’s biggest lossesDil Raju is a noted producer in Telugu cinema who is making the news for ‘controlling’ the industry. He has been the epicentre of the debates around the distribution of star-led Sankranti movies. However, behind his immense successes are equally big losses and box-office failures. In a recent interview with a Telugu movie news website, he opened up about the biggest losses he has suffered as a distributor. In 2017, Dil Raju was the distributor for two of the biggest releases of the year Spyder, starring Mahesh Babu and Agnyaathavaasi, starring Pawan Kalyan. Both movies were a dud at the box office and caused huge losses to the distributors. Dil Raju admitted that he paid Rs. 27 Crore to buy the distribution rights for ‘Agnyaathavaasi’, which ended up being a big disappointment. He remarked that had it been any other person, they would have committed suicide. He managed to survive because of his successful production ventures in the same year. He also said that he takes a call on what films to distribute and how much to pay for their rights based on their content. “Secret to success is the content,” he said. Whether a film is a hit or a flop is decided by the audience after judging the content of the film. ‘Varisu’, titled Vaarasudu in Telugu, bankrolled by his banner Sri Venkateswara Creations, is slated for a release on 12 January 2023.
