Actor Nani expressed his disappointment when Suriya's acclaimed legal drama didn't win in an category at the National Film Awards 2023When the winners of the 69th National Film Awards were announced on August 24, it was a moment of pride for the Telugu film industry as RRR and Pushpa sweeped the awards in many categories and Allu Arjun became the first ever Telugu actor to win the ‘National Film Award for Best Actor’ in its history. Many people from TFI celebrated the massive win including Nani, but the actor also expressed his discontent over Suriya's acclaimed film Jai Bhim not being honoured in any category.Like many netizens and fans of the film, Nani expressed his disappointment in a tweet and by posting a story on his Instagram page, which read “#JaiBhim” with a broken heart emoji. Soon, some of the media outlets took the opportunity to twist the story and blew the news out of proportion, which resulted in Nani facing the heat from Telugu movie fans.Addressing the issue at the ‘India Today Roundtable’ in Telangana recently, Nani said, “It was really taken out of context. I was so proud and happy of the achievement Telugu cinema got from The National Awards. There was ‘RRR’, ‘Pushpa’; and my brother Bunny (Allu Arjun) got his first National Award. It was the most number of National Awards we ever won. I was extremely happy. I had put up a post.”“I also put up a post… and where ‘Jai Bhim’… I even tweeted when I watched that film, it is one of the best films I've seen. When it didn't get any award, in any category, I was like ‘the film deserved… in some category at least… did you guys watch the film'… that was the question, so I felt it was like... let's say my sister got really good marks or rank and my cousin from next door didn't, So I will express my happiness for my sister and I’ll also express my (sadness for my cousin)… becausing I was hoping for that film too. And it's a great great film, so I put it. And suddenly I've seen some media links saying ‘Nani is not very happy that we got awards’… when did I ever say that?…. I'm very very happy that we got the awards, but I also loved that film. It would've been encouraging for those filmmakers and those technicians who did a great job,” clarified the ‘Natural Star’.Starring, Suriya, Manikandan and Lijimol Jose, the 2021 film ‘Jai Bhim’ has earned widespread acclaim for its realistic portrayal of a true incident that happened in 1993 and was based on a real-life case fought by an activist and advocate Justice K Chandru. On the work front, Nani will soon be seen in a heartwarming emotional drama Hi Nanna, which is scheduled for a theatrical release on December 1, 2023.
