Actress Deepika Padukone is currently in Cannes as part of the jury for the 75th edition of the International Film Festival. In an interview given at Cannes, she shared her experience of being at Cannes, being part of the jury, about India being chosen as the 'Country of Honour' and the total atmosphere there. “It’s film school combined with magic. I can’t even begin to explain it. Ranveer (Ranveer Singh) and I usually do two holidays in a year…one we try and do in June-July and one at the end of the year. After this experience, I told him there’s no reason to go anywhere else or be anywhere else. Let’s come here every year for two weeks, watch all these movies. What more can one ask for as an actor where you have dedicated time without guilt…every day you’re just waking up and watching movies and then to be part of this jury with these incredible people who are older and more experienced than me, to be interacting with them and understanding cinema from their perspective…it’s an incredible period of learning for me,” said the ‘Gehraiyaan’ actress. Commenting on her role as a jury member, she said, “At the end of two weeks we’ve got to judge these films and I’ve never been in this position before. So, I’m a bit nervous because every film means something to someone and to rate one film as better than another…I’ve never done this before although I have been at the receiving end, so this is a new experience for me and I’ll take it as it comes”. With India being chosen as the 'Country of Honour', Indian films garnering special attention and around 400 Indians attending the festival, Deepika was asked about how should more of Indian films be screened at the Cannes International Film Festival. Stating that Indian film industry is making good movies but they somehow are not making it far mostly because of the selection process, Deepika said "Had you asked me this question last year or anytime before I would've said it's the kind of content that we're creating. But I'm convinced now that it's something to do with the selection process. I've seen movies and wondered why couldn't this or that movie be here. I think a lot of our movies deserve to be here".
