Amidst rumours that Vijay and Pooja Hegde-starrer 'Beast' is a rip-off of the 2019 Tamil film 'Gurkha', director Nelson gives a clarification
Tamil super star Vijay and Pooja Hegde-starrer Beast is releasing on April 14. The dubbed version of the film directed by Nelson will be releasing in Telugu on the same day.
Meanwhile, Nelson has refuted rumours of ‘Beast’ being a copy of the 2019 Tamil film ‘Gurkha’. Vijay plays a RAW agent in ‘Beast’ who gets trapped in a shopping mall in Chennai along with other people who are taken hostages by a group of terrorists. ‘Gurkha’ also had a similar plot line.
“There are many films which have the backdrop of a shopping mall hijack. Beast and Gurkha also fall into the same category but our plot lines and modes of presentation are completely different,” said Nelson and added, “80 percent of ‘Beast’ takes place in the mall. This is a script especially written keeping Vijay sir in mind. When I was writing ‘Beast’, many of friends were skeptical whether Vijay sir would approve of it because it is so different from his usual brand of commercial cinema. But I was totally confident that he would like it,” said Nelson.
