Alia Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's latest blockbuster Gangubai Kathiawadi is set to stream on Netflix from April 26, 2022 In September 2019, when it was announced that Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt are collaborating on a very intense script, there were high expectations. The film, which released on February 25, 2019, stars Alia Bhatt in the titular role of Gangubai Kathiawadi, along with Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, and Jim Sarbh along with Ajay Devgn in an extended cameo. The script is based on the true story of a simpleton Gangubai Harjivandas who was pushed into prostitution and had no option but to embrace the ways of destiny and swing it in her favour. Her life was chronicled in a book called the 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai' written by S Hussain Zaidi. Upon its release, the film earned nearly Rs 200 Crores worldwide and received positive reviews mainly for the direction and Bhatt's potrayal as Gangubai. It was also said that the film takes us on a journey of emotions of a simple girl's rise to power to protect not just herself but others who were under her care.The film is finally set to make its digital debut on the OTT giant Netflix on April 26, 2022, in Hindi and Telugu.
