The Rs 100 coin will feature an image of the former CM and be released on his centenary Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, popularly dubbed as NTR’s significance in Telugu Cinema and politics, isn’t unheard of. The former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh is a revered name in the film industry not just for his acting prowess but also as a director, screenwriter and producer. Born on 28 May 1983, 2023 marks the legendary actor’s birth centenary. To honour the veteran actor on his 100th birthday, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reportedly plans to release a commemorative coin with his figure minted onto the silver body. The governor of RBI has apparently expressed his willingness to print the actor’s figure on the Rs 100 coin. An official announcement on the same is, however, still awaited. According to multiple media reports, a replica of the NTR coin is being tested out, and the concerned authorities are said to have taken the same to Daggubati Purandeshwari, the daughter of the former CM, to get her feedback on the same. The coin, if approved, will be an anniversary edition and will not be released for circulation. Regardless, it is a rare honour for a person’s likeness to be minted onto a coin, and fans of the late actor are overjoyed at the news.
