It’s been nearly a year since T-town fans have watched their favourite stars on screenAs times change, people change, lifestyles and systems change. While cinema still continues to rule the roost as the preferred mode of entertainment, Indian cinema and Tollywood have adapted to the times in the way they operate. For instance, super star Krishna had 18 releases in 1972 beating the record of senior NTR who had 17 releases in 1964 and Krishnam Raju who had 17 in 1974. Even Rajendra Prasad had 17 in 1988. Mega Star Chiranjeevi had 14 releases in 1980, Sobhan Babu had 12 releases in 1980, Akkineni Nageswara Rao had 9 releases in the years 1960, 1971 and 1984, Allari Naresh had 8 releases in 2008, Nandamuri Balakrishna had 7 in 1987 and finally, Jagapathi Babu rounds off the list with 6 releases in 1996.Today, the scenario has completely changed and understandably so. Markets have expanded exponentially and quality has taken precedence over quantity. Instead of doing multiple films a year, a top hero is doing one film a year or even one in two or three. The budgets of six films are reflected in one. The stakes are higher and so is the reward potential. When it comes to our very own Tollywood, the scenario is no different. Fans unlike earlier are now having to wait for a year or more to watch their idols on screen. While the general audience would not be unduly worried, it is not so with fans who crave more. Here, we look at six top Telugu stars missing in action on the silver screen for more than a year.Allu ArjunPushpa: The Rise that released on December 17, 2021 made Allu Arjun a Pan-Indian star. Bunny is now working on the sequel to the film that has a tentative release date scheduled for December 2023. While the first part focused on the rise of Pushparaj from a lowly coolie to becoming the head of the red sanders smuggling syndicate, the sequel will focus on his tussle with the forest officer Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil) who is as egoistical as Pushpa and determined to bring him down at any cost. Ram Charan and Jr NTRBoth Ram Charan and Jr NTR became the toast of Indian cinema with the spectacular success of RRR which released on March 25, 2022. Ram Charan is next working with director Shankar and the film is being planned for a Sankranthi release in 2024. Jr NTR’s next is with Koratala Siva and the movie is yet to go on floors. Ram Charan will be seen in two different shades in the film that’s being billed as a political action thriller. Jr NTR’s film with Koratala will also be high on action and that’s about all we know about the movie for the moment. Pawan KalyanThe Power Star’s last release was Bheemla Nayak on February 25, 2022. His next release is the period action drama Hari Hara Veera Mallu which is working towards the deadline of a March 30 release in 2023. Set in the 17th century Mughal era, Pawan Kalyan plays the titular role of Veera Mallu, a bandit whereas Bobby Deol plays the role of Emperor Aurangzeb.Mahesh BabuThe Telugu super star’s last outing was Sarkaru Vaari Paata that released on May 12, 2022 to a thunderous response at the box-office. While fans all over the world are excited at Mahesh Babu collaborating with SS Rajamouli in the future, his immediate project is a family entertainer with Trivikram Srinivas that has gone on floors and has earmarked the date of August 11, 2022 for a worldwide release. There is much curiosity regarding the project even in the Hindi belt as the North Indian fans are curious to see the man who has been chosen by Rajamouli to star in his next. PrabhasAfter watching Prabhas in the action extravaganzas Baahubali and Saaho, fans were eagerly awaiting similar fare from his next flick Radhe Shyam that released on March 11, 2022. However, in complete contrast to his image, Prabhas was seen as a palmist in the film without any action sequences. Needless to say, the movie went down as a massive flop although it did not affect Prabhas’ stardom in any way. Prabhas’ next film will be Adipurush, a contemporary interpretation of an episode from the classic text Ramayana and fans are eagerly awaiting the movie to watch Prabhas as Lord Rama. Adipurush will be arriving in theatres on June 16, 2022.
